The Hunt

Typical Day of Hunting...

Hunts begin according to South Dakota Game Fish and Parks regulations, which is noon prior to daylight savings time and 10 am start after the time change. The itinereary is as follows:

The Land

The Feistner Pheasant Ranch prides itself on maintaining excellent habitat for pheasants. We accomplish this through a combination of CRP ground and food plots. In total, we hunt more than 7,500 acres of land consisting of corn, shelterbelts, over 1,000 acres of CRP, and other crops. Each spring, a minimum of 25 food plots are planted and maintained for the sole purpose of pheasant hunting.

Guide Service

All hunts at the Feistner Pheasant Ranch will be organized by professional guides. The guides will accompany you to the field and assist in retrieving downed birds. The guides do an outstanding job of directing the hunt so that hunters are positioned in the optimal positions while hunting in the fields. These guides are absolutely top of the line, not to mention a lot of fun to be around!

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Various clay pigeons throwers, including a remote control clay pigeon thrower which can throw up to 60 clay pigeons a minute, is provided to "warm up" hunters during their stay.

Transportation

Hunters will be transported to and from the fields in two 15 passenger vans. The vans are equipped with great heaters, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers to provide comfort as well as safety.
